A friend who shares my interest in experimental stuff such as Igorrr and Hesus Attor recommended this to me. Spiritual Black Metal Blues. Listening to it for the first time as I type this, but already worth recommending to you people! :-) I'll have to preorder it on Vinyl!

That Zeal and Ardor made a huge splash on Bandcamp lately. I must admit I didn't totally get it. :|

Damn, Zeal and Ardor is everywhere. Listened to it last month. Saw Roadburn post about it, as well as Schammasch earlier this week. Just listened to it again. The concept of what most people seem to be getting out of this is possibly a nice idea, but I think the way he puts it to use doesn't work well. At the very least it's not a full-on copycat. I think people are mostly lured in by the combination of the "black metal" (which is really more post-metal than anything) and "spirituals" tag.
Was just recommended this post-punk/darkwave outfit from Turkey. Really dig this old, new sound. Not that I'm familiar with this style of music at all.

Personally I find myself digging a lot of music where elements from different genres are combinated (as mentioned Igorrr, Hesus Attor or Fantômas, for example), so I didn't need to get "lured" into it. :-) But I scarcely explore music via Bandcamp and such anyway.
When you say "not a full-on copycat", what exactly are you referring to? Is there any similar stuff out there? Would like to listen to that as well :-)

This was the album that convinced me to give Kayo Dot a better chance (I had heard bits of early stuff and been thoroughly put off by the vocals).
bought on vinyl without prior listening, taken in meditation through a nice valve amp... when the rotation between the sax and guitars came in that was it, I was hooked. I think that musically the new album is musically the best Toby Driver has done, but Gamma Knife and Hubardo (Blood Music pressing please?!) hold a special place.

There's no stuff like this, as far as I know. What I meant is that it doesn't copy a complete sound, but arguably does copy elements. Which goes for all music in varying degrees, but I just don't think this band really makes it its own. It sounds incoherent to me; like bits of not-so-original music were "copypasted", instead of carefully applied to form something new. I just don't feel its heart/spirit/soul. As for the lured in thing... well, the tags and imagery are what drew me in initially; my favorite bands are usually hard to classify, so I always get excited when I see unusual tag combinations. I just feel cheated by 'em this time around.

Have been listening to The Residents here and there. Although, out of their massive discography, I have only really gotten around to their "Commercial Album" (1980) in full, which consists of 40 strange songs all about 1:03 in length. A lot of their work is paired with equally strange videos. Peculiar stuff.
