Yeah I realize the records previous to Children of the Night are death metal, but I think they have exited that league.  I could imagine them pushing more towards this direction as CotN seemed to be a pretty good hit for them.  Terrific album!  I was in a bidding war against Century Media and a bunch of other labels on that one, I even offered a damn high price for it, that's how much I like it.  But Century Media's machinery and track record won out - nbd!

Yeah, the band's approach feels really fresh. I've heard quite many people saying that it's the direction Watain should've taken after Lawless Darkness, and I can't say I disagree.

Don't even get me started on their new album title. Anyway, you'd think the novelty of the name would be all there is, but it's pretty good! Darker, raw chtulhu themed. The song titles are so outrageous. Here's a link:

I wrote to those guys a year or so ago cause I was curious about the music after the announcement but gotta say that music ultimately isn't doing much for me. Those drums, etc. I don't think I would've signed this had I heard it.

Ha, not into DM so much so haven't read this thread. Just discovered said band and came here to share. Seems you already found 'em. Logo and artwork are cool but music sounds like a machine gun firing in a sewer. Not for me.

Well, I love DM, and I had to push stop after about 30 seconds. That kind of over the top technicality is totally not my cup of tea :) There's nothing what I look for in death metal in that kind of approach, neither brutality nor darkness. 90s Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation have a special place in my heart for nostalgic reasons, but honestly, I've grown tired of them a long time ago as well.

You're right about the drums. They don't gel well. I like the rest though.

the last album was some of the finest metal I've heard in years, it will definitely appeal to fans of Deathspell Omega (who I also felt were closer musically to a post-Gorguts evolution of death metal than any kind of black metal). This release takes it to a new weid but is definitely interesting and unique
 One of the drummers is kind of a beast in contemporary jazz, doing a lot with some Zorn related projects. I first heard him on the Abraxas CD and then saw/heard him perform some super heavy sets with Secret Chiefs 3 before coming across his metal work.

This band will be a real treat for some, features a few members of Pyrrhon
