Next time Meshuggah comes around remind me of this post:

Don't do it. I remember when they came around in 2013 I came back and said I was disappointed. Here they come again, this time with High on Fire, one of my favorite bands, so of course I'm going. HoF was amazing, as usual. 45 minutes into Meshuggah I left, because I realized I had been on my phone most of the time, and not watching them. I don't get it: I like their albums, I think the new album is great. But they're the most boring live band I've ever seen, and now I've seen them twice. All they do is stand there with zero energy. Their entire stage presence is their lights. The music sounds good, sure. But they're just so fucking boring to watch. I know I'm in the vast VAST minority on this, but I just don't get it.

That's weird cause I saw them at Tuska (festival in Finland) a few years ago, and I thought they were one of the best live bands there that year. Probably one of the main reasons was I thought their sound translates really well to a live atmosphere. Maybe they're better playing outdoors or something?

Yeah, I don't get it. Especially since they're a great band.

I saw them opening for tool in 2002 or 2003 and they were good. Not mindblowing good but good. The same just happened to me when seeing Fallujah live, their album is amazing but they playing live was so dull. People weren't even headbanging or anything.
black vinyl can always wait.

I haven't seen them live but I heard Between the Buried and Me is like that, that they rip on record but in person they just stand around staring at their fretboards.

Yeah this was my third time catching them (BTBAM) because I wanted to see other bands on the bill and it kills me how low energy they are live. Good thing Devin Townsend saved the day after those two!

I had the same experience with Fallujah - their singer kept trying to get people to form a pit, but nobody was really having it.

However, people definitely got into BTBAM. I think Tommy has some pretty good energy when he's not tied down to the keyboard.

Good to see it's not just me with Fallujah either.

Now I've only heard Dreamless, but I don't see them as a band that gets mad mosh pits
At all

I think this is one of the things that ate away at my interest in prog/super technical music. Saw dream theater a couple of years ago (before astonishing) and I felt like I should have brought a sleeping bag
