Talking about shred Earthship. Has anyone heard Ov by Orthrelm? I would say that is by far the hardest piece of music I've been able to wade through. It is so repetitive and so technical you lose track of what's happening, you lose track of time and it has wrinkled my brain on many occasions. It's a lot of work but worth it. I recall Mick Barr ended up getting repetitive strain injury while on tour for it and had to cancel some shows. Now that's suffering for your art.

I only listened to it once but I love it! difficult art but of high quality, I find most Orthrelm quite easy and even pleasant but OV is kind of a test. Much of my favourite Mick Barr only got one listen, even "Annwn" from Ocrilim only got one listen despite it really taking me places when I finally stuck it on for a meditation, I bought "Annwn 2" years ago but still haven't found the right time to immerse.

I'm going to leave this here for you as GIRTH somehow fit with Hella and Orthrelm in my mind, despite all having their own flavour. at least I feel thst way about the first GIRTH album. "Sleeper, Awaken!" is closer to a Cleric type thing and is something everyone needs to hear at least once, some kind of blackened psychedelci prog-grind.

Girth a really good, although sleeper, awaken! is far too short. Although it didn't need to be an opus, the short listen leaves you really wanting.  Cleric are phenomenal too. I like how you frame Ov as a test. Really good way to introduce it to others. Set a challenge with them... "you think you can handle this? Prove it".

I think 'Sleeper, Awaken!' definitely feels complete in itself but also definitely leaves room for want, and the last GIRTH was cool in its way but falling far short of the previous brilliance. following th style of the former could have created something great! the drummer is pretty special but I've not found interest in his later projects, aside from some youtube recordings of tabla transpositions and some nice Persian music. and indeed, OV is only for the intepid listener!
