I now think they used just the right amount. It was only one section and they used it to its potential imo. I do see what you're saying though; I think that about summed up my thoughts on first listen.
Sure, could have done without the black vox, too, but then again I think they were used with very good taste here. Fit the part of the song perfectly. Reckon Neige once said he only uses black vocals when the music needs it and when it fits.
