In anticipation of the SGM pre-orders rolling out later this year (I'm pretty confident despite no confirmation), I'm listening to their catalog again. Finished their debut last night and realized I'm content with not owning that one. It had more filler than I remember. Half-way through their second, and... damn.

Mmm I can understand seeing parts of their first album as filler, but in the end I feel like Ablutions, The Stain and Sunflower all still have their place on the album. They are just a bit more challenging then the rest of the release especially when compared to tracks like Powerless or Sleepytime. Just like many other albums there are tracks that I'm draw to more then others and certainly those three songs are the ones I listen to the least on the Grand Opening and Closing but I considering the complexity of the works I still have a hard time seeing them as filler, more like experiments for future works.
But I'm also a die hard fan for Sleepytime. They were all super friendly people to meet, their logo was my first tattoo and I saw them preform more times then any other group aside from Swans. I am patiently waiting Free Salamander Exhibit to release something, which I know is due some day, as well as the final Sleepytime album: The Last Human Being. Come on Nils, Dan and you other dinguses! Finish these albums already!
This reminds me: Dr. Blood, will the first Sleepytime album also include More Time and Flinch from the rereleased version of the Grand Opening and Closing or will it just end with Sunflower?
