Just got back from Roadburn. The last day was a blast, the other days kinda blew, apart from a few bands. Hail Spirit Noir was awesome, although the sound could've been a little bit better. Ended my Sunday with GosT. Despite clamoring for more, we were disappointed by the 013 venue (I assume) in our want for one more (preferably even more) song(s). That was, by the way, the only gig I witnessed this festival where the crowd actively screamed for more. Overall, last year was much better, and the Roadburn FB group is too much of a circlejerk in constantly praising the fest and not allowing any space for criticism, attempting to push forward bands that are undeserving. I'm left wondering why some people get to curate and why the same bands play over and over. While those truly deserving sometimes do get attention, they often get too little in comparison to other mediocre, widely recognized acts. I get that there's a "core" Roadburn audience, and I'm not a part of that, but if Roadburn wants to be a leading force in directing us to the best and most innovative music this will need to change.
