Without doubt, "Hope Finally Dies" by Decomposed is one doom album that EVERYBODY should hear.

Lycus "Chasms" is pretty good, came out earlier this year, not sure if I like it as much as their earlier album "Tempest" though.

I guess Summoning could be classed as blackened doom? Cult of Luna are more straight up post-metal though, although their lyrical themes are definitely in a doom direction sometimes.
Resident melodeath/post-metal & rock/synthwave/j-pop fan.

Just giving Ahab's "The Call of The Wretched Sea" a listen for the first time.

I did enjoy Atoma's release a lot at the time. Especially Highway, that song is kind of burned into my memory. Perhaps I should listen again sometime.

Opinions on Conan? I actually really enjoyed them live, would recommend. They're really heavy, but on album the stuff doesn't do too much for me.

I'm sure I would enjoy Conan live, but otherwise their album stuff doesn't move me much either.

I have to agree with you guys, Conan feels like it could be a lot better.

I guess I'd categorize Summoning somewhere in the black metal spectrum, but I can see the doom atmosphere in it. Same goes for Cult of Luna. Sure, they're post-metal, but I think there's a doomy kind of feeling in their sound and music. Besides, sometimes I think the whole post-metal genre tag feels a bit forced.

What do you guys think of Dread Sovereign, by the way? I think "All Hell's Martyrs" was one of the best albums of 2014. Doom metal with Nemtheanga's vocals, gotta love it!

I like Dread Sovereign a lot, and I love Nemtheanga, but for me not every song by DS hits the nail in the head.

To all the friends of old school doom I'd recommend Spiritus Mortis' latest album, The Year Is One. I just listened to it from Spotify, and I was damn convinced. Have to pick up the vinyl ASAP. Albert Witchfinder's vocals are fawkin' awesome.

Our bass player's other band, Ever Circling Wolves, has just released a new album. It's really good and atmospheric doom/death/sludge stuff! https://ecwdoom.bandcamp.com/album/of-wo...-the-gloom
