"The Machine"
Low budget British sci-fi thriller about an MoD scientist who's trying to develop AI to be used with injured and brain-damaged soldiers, who suddenly finds his bosses working against him when he makes a breakthrough.
This predates "Ex Machina" by a year or so, and there are vague similarities between the two plots. It borrows small elements from "Blade Runner" and "Robocop" too, but is good enough in its own right as to not be derivative.
Also... has a retrosynth soundtrack! My missus kept asking why they'd stolen the music from "T2", haha.
