Beer Recommendation Thread

Has been popular on other forums as well, so I thought I'd try it out here too. Didn't really know where to post it so feel free to move. Anyway, point is for all the beer enthusiasts to share your favourite beers here or whatever.

I'll start with my two personal favourites.



Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier
Dating back to the medieval times, it's definitely the best one I've tasted. Their brewery or something in Bamberg is apparently a Unesco world heritage site so that's something, I guess. If you want more recommendations, I reckon the Rauchbier is also a favourite of some guys in Agalloch and Moonsorrow. So, metal as fvkk.



La Trappe Dubbel
The only variant I've managed to find in Finland, it's fking amazing.

I actually brew my own beer, once you get used to the specific method and take sterilizing seriously the results can be superb.

In emergencies I can go to my amazing local office licence, I literally could spent hours in there deciding what to buy.

La Trappe Dubbel
The only variant I've managed to find in Finland, it's fking amazing.

Yes, it is very good. But you need to extend your searches beyond Finland if you want more abbey beers - or others. Order a nice 24 bottle select case to your doorstep every now and then. There are plenty of online breweries/distros that let you explore a vast selection and there are places where the shipping costs aren't a killer either. Unfortunately some countries get blacklisted for some time every now and then for various reasons, but there are plenty of good alternatives wherever you want them delivered.

If you want a package to Finland, try for example Hops United. They seem to have great mixed cases or you can get some Amorphis lager for next sauna evening. In case you don't know what to get, they seem to have fantastic quality selections in the ready-made mixed cases. Just slight server problems presently. These are pure quality:

Beer lover here! I'm mostly familiar with what is available here in Québec, Canada. We have plenty of microbreweries in every region of Québec, I'm just not sure which ones are available internationally.
I'm a big fan of most beers from:
Unibroue (especially Fin du Monde, Trois-Pistoles and Don de Dieu)
Microbrasserie Charlevoix (their Dominus Vobiscum series are all excellent, the Double in particular)
Microbrasserie du Lac-St-Jean (Gros Mollet, Tante Tricotante, Boute Feu)
Trou du Diable (Shawinigan Handshake, Dubaï Pillée)

In more general terms, I enjoy most Belgian-type beers, triple, red and brown ales, IPA of the Imperial variety. Not that big on stouts and white/weizen ales although there are exceptions.

Speaking of Belgian beers, I really love Trappiste Rochefort 8 and 10, Tripel Karmeliet, Chimay Blue and Leffe Blond. I haven't had a chance to taste La Trappe Dubbel, but I did try Isid Dor, Tripel and Quadrupel. They're all good.

The Marzen is great but for me it is all about the Urbock.



My all time favorite beer has to be the Duck Rabbit Milk Stout:

^ Urbock's great, too! Pretty close to Märzen, I'm not quite sure which one I prefer. Also very interested to try the rest, particularly Eiche.

I've a couple of beer packages delivered during the last three weeks, but I haven't really gotten round to opening them. It's the same with vinyl packages sometimes. I want to savor the contents instead of casually opening them when I'm busy, tired and the kids hanging from my neck and just thinking 'yeah, it's the correct LP and version, nice' and then toss it aside.

I got a couple of Opeth Imperial Stouts from Northern Monk a few weeks ago. Those sold out FAST, but luckily NM sold a few packages a bit later that had the Opeth stout with some cascade ales and .... wait for it .... parsnip and blackpepper dunkelweiss, hahaha. That bastard is weird! Not good, but it could be worse. Despite how it sounds like, I didn't have to throw the bottles away.

Last week I got a selection of belgian abbey beers that are waiting for closer inspection. And this week the Stout At The Devil package arrived from Hops United - waiting to be opened too. Now there's a nice selection of quality in the basement again

I am not the big beer drinker anymore, but i still once in a while love a pint of ale especially ESB or London pride from Fuller . Im mostly into ales and stouts, not lager and pils. Some german dark beers are also good but cant remember their names lol.

Guinness do fine also
